WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SUMP PANS, DECK PLATES SUMP RECEIVERS AND CUSTOM SUMP PAN?

LASER FABRICATED SUMP PANS

  • Models SSP  (small single pan) lowers the bottom and side outlet small roof drains 2″ below the roof deck, both have 8-1/2″ diameter bowls
  • Model SCP   (small combo – double- pan) lowers the small combination roof drain 2″ below the deck and have 8-1/2″ diameter bowls
  • Models LSP   (large single pan) lowers the bottom outlet 12″ and 15″ (bowl size) single roof drains 2-1/2″ below the roof deck
  • Model LCP (large combo-double pan) lowers the 12″, 15″ and 15-1/2″ roof drains (bowl diameters) 2-1/2″ below the roof deck and accept various in various drain brands.
  • All of the sump pans eliminate the need for an underdeck clamp. 

DECK PLATES…

  • the deck plate is supplied by the drain manufacturer and mounts the roof drain at deck level. It eliminates the need for an underdeck clamp.

SUMP RECEIVER…

  • The sump receiver is similar to the deck plate and is supplied by the drain manufacturer and mounts the roof drain at deck level also but requires an underdeck clamp. 

CUSTOM DRAIN PAN…

  • This is similar to the sump receiver and is fabricated by Custom Roof Drain Pans Co. in-house and does not require an underdeck clamp, rather it uses universal clips. A feature that sets it apart is that it can fabricated to accept nearly any roof drain, bottom or side, single or double.

  • Sump Pan kits include sump pans only and are usually purchased by buyers who will supply their own roof drains

WHICH SHOULD I USE?  Use the sump pan if you want your drain lowered. Use the others when your roof covering is thick enough that you don’t need to lower the roof drain.  Many people use the sump pans regardless of the roof thickness.  

 

How far apart do the roof  joists need to be?

  1. For SSP and SCP, the joists need to be a min of 16″ on center and you must have 14″ of clear space between them.
  2. LSP and LCP require joists that are 24″ on center and you must 22″ of clear space between them minimum. If you have a concrete or metal roof, you probably have joists much further apart than 24″. In this case you can use any of the sump pans however model LSP and LCP work best.
  3. Knowing which sump pan you need will also determine which basic roof drain to use.
  4. You still need to determine whether you need a side or bottom outlet roof drain and what size pipe outlet.

Bottom or side outlet roof drains?

  1. THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT… Determine how much space you have between your roof and ceiling as it determines whether you need a bottom or side outlet roof drain.
  2. If you have at least 13 inches or so, you can use a bottom outlet roof drain.
  3. If you have only 8 inches or so, you will need a side outlet roof drain
  4. Review this link SPACE REQUIREMENTS 
  5. Take into consideration existing pipe runs. If you have existing horizontal piping that is 10″ from the roof, (as an example) use a side outlet roof drain or you will have to rehang the piping lower to accommodate the roof drain.

Roof drain pipe sizes

  1. OK, you decided on the roof drain direction. Well done!
  2. Model SSP and SCP roof drains max out at 4 inches pipe size with a no-hub connection. See the spec sheet below.
  3. Model LSP and LCP max out at 8 inch pipe size. The side outlet roof drains are all threaded. See the spec sheet.
  4. Currently only the Zurn brand roof drain fit the pans. Soon we will be including all other roof drain brands.

Yes. In many cases the roof drains are available in your locality, thereby saving you potentially hundreds on product and shipping costs. The sump pans are available on the shop cart.
