Roof Drain Installation Projects
Here are pictures of actual projects from all over the USA and Canada. See how customers just like you used these awesome sump pans to prevent massive water damage to their flat roofs
Zurn Z100 / LCP Kit - 15" roof drains June 2026
Here are recent photos sent by one of our valued customers, JC Services in Mesa Az, USA. This project shows a superb installation "sumping" combination roof drains on a new build in Mesa Az. Notice the "crickets", (sloped plywood) that directs the flow of water to the drains. Future ponding issues will be virtually non-existent on this roof. Joists are 24" on center. The reflective coating is perfect for a desert environment. Also, the contractor saved tens of hours installing five sets rather than building wood sump boxes on the jobsite
Jay R. Smith 12″ Roof Drain (1310) and LSP Pan Kit
Here are recent photos sent by one of our valued customers, L.H. of Momentum Properties, Los Angeles, CA. This project was in Florida, USA, and shows the Jay R. Smith 12" roof drain (flange diameter) and LSP (large single pan) sump pan installed on a metal roof. The roof drain was "sumped" four inches as the roof had approximately two inches of insulation plus the 2-1/2" depth of the sump pan. The chances of rainwater ponding in this area have been reduced to zero! This also means no future roof repairs in this area which will save the property owner thousands.
LSP sump pan and Zurn 15" drain
Here are recent photos sent by one of our valued customers, C.I. in Stanton Texas, June 2026. This project shows another installation technique whereby the roofing was removed down to the joists. The pan was then set on the joists which gave it yet another 1/2" or so of sump area. They also used a coating to waterproof the pan and drain. This area of the roof will never pond rainwater again.
TPO roofing installation
Here are some awesome TPO installation photos sent to us by one of our valued customers. He used model SSP roof drain sump pan and the Frank Pattern blue roof drain, model 853SN side outlet. For those unfamiliar with this type of roofing system, the individual roofing components are heat fused together to form a watertight seal rather than using the hot tar or torchdown method
Project - SSP sump pan installation
Arizona, USA
Here is a roof drain installation project by one of our valued roofing contractor clients using model SSP sump pan and a Jay R. Smith 110, 8-1/2, bottom outlet roof drain. The roof covering appears to be a sprayed on roof coating over 1″ or 2″ of insulation board. The insulation plus the sump put the roof drain 4″ below the actual roof deck (plywood)
SSP installation-2/2023
All Tech Plumbing, Mission Viejo, CA, USA - jobsite Laguna Niguel, CA, USA
Here is a roof drain installation project on a garage by one of our valued clients using model SSP sump pan and the Frank Pattern roof drain. The roof drain was a 2″ no-hub outlet with 2″ ABS pipe and fittings. CA, USA
SCP Installation Project 11/2022
Here is a roof drain installation project by one of our valued clients using model SCP sump pan and the Frank Pattern combination roof drain. He tied into existing piping. Notice the “crickets”, the angular plywood pieces that funnel the rainwater toward the roof drain. He avoided having to reslope his entire roof using these techniques, saving considerable expense. E.S. Wisconsin, USA
SCP Pan Installation Project 4/2022
This roof drain installation project consisted of replacement of eleven roof drains on three separate roofs. The work was done by All Tech Plumbing, the parent company of Custom Roof Drain Pans Co. It is a single story, wood framed flat roof on a govt building in Los Angeles, Ca.
WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL ROOF DRAINAGE SYSTEM?
- Firstly, there were five roof drains installed on one roof, each with a 3″ pipe size. This was massive overkill as the roof surface was less than 2000 sq ft.
- Second, the roof drains were too big for the space, requiring the joists to be trimmed. Not a good idea.
- No sump pan. This left the roof drain sitting too high on the deck and caused standing rainwater.
- The scupper drains (in the parapet wall) were covered over so there was no drainage possible.
CORRECTIONS TO THE SYSTEM…
- Installed the correct size roof drain and sump pan.
- This lowered the roof drains and prevented any future standing rainwater issues.
- No joists were cut which maintained the integrity of the structure given it’s condition.
- New cast iron piping, fittings and no-hub couplings were used as required.
LCP sump pan and Zurn Z100 combination roof drain
SCOPE OF WORK:
This roof drain installation project was a single story, wood framed commercial office building in Sherman Oaks Ca. and used model LCP roof drain sump pan
- The roof collapsed from roof drains sitting too high on the flat roof. This caused huge pools of rainwater to build up that caved in the roof. Fortunately, no one was injured.
- The entire corner of the roof was rebuilt. Our LCP sump pan was used to prevent the same situation from occurring again.
- The sump pan was custom framed at the time of the build back however this sump pan will fit between joists that 24″ on center on any roof.
Materials used:
- LCP roof drain sump pan and a Zurn 15″, Z100, no-hub, bottom outlet primary roof drain and Z100 -89, 15″ overflow roof drain.
- Cast iron piping and fittings and no-hub couplings.
- Spray on foam roof covering was used by the roofing contractor.
LSP roof drain sump pan and Zurn Z100 roof drain
SCOPE OF WORK:
This project was done by All Tech Plumbing, the parent company to Roof Drain Pans Co.
This was a single story, wood framed commercial strip mall in Lake Forest Ca.
This roof had severe standing rainwater issues due mainly to too few roof drains and the existing drains were undersized and misplaced.
This situation was compounded by the six foot high parapet wall that surrounded the roof and trapped the rainwater. This was a “perfect storm” of circumstances that caused premature roof damage and expensive repairs.
- This could have easily caused the roof to collapse under the stress of excessive weight.
- The rainwater had to be conveyed away from the building and underground piping was added to resolve the problem.
- Our LSP sump pan was used to prevent the same situation from occurring again which has saved the property owner tens of thousands of dollars in roof repairs.
Materials used:
- LSP roof drain sump pan and a Zurn 15″, Z100, no-hub, bottom outlet primary roof drain.
- ABS piping and fittings were used
- Spray on foam roof covering was used by the roofing contractor.
LSP Sump Pans / Zurn Z100 drains
SCOPE OF WORK:
This roof drain installation project was done by All Tech Plumbing, the parent company to Roof Drain Pans Co.
This project is located in Hawthorne, CA. This was a two story concrete tilt up building with a wood framed roof. .
There were five existing roof drains that were sitting too high on the roof and were undersized which caused pools of standing rainwater and subsequent roof damage. Also there were three separate ponding areas that had no roof drains. All of the overflow roof drain were grossly undersized.
To correct the problems, All Tech Plumbing installed all new 15″ primary and overflow roof drains and sumped them using model LSP roof drain sump pans.
Wall coring was required for the roof drain piping to pass through the concrete wall in order to convey the rainwater to the exterior of the building.
Materials used:
- LSP roof drain sump pans, Zurn 15″, Z100 primary roof drain and ZC100-89 overflow roof drain.
- Cast iron piping and fittings. No hub couplings.
