LCP Roof Drain Sump Pan - Features and Benefits

LCP roof drain sump pan which means "large combination pan" and will "sump" or lower a primary and overflow roof drain 2.5" below the deck level. You will need at least 15" of clear vertical space between the roof and ceiling if there is one. These dimensions will be different for concrete and steel deck installations  see below

LCP roof drain sump pan has universal engineering features not found in other drain pans

  • LCP sump pan has been engineered to accept 12″ and 15″ primary and overflow, bottom outlet cast iron roof drains without any modifications to the pan.  The 12″ roof drain gives you more space to maneuver the assembly than the 15″ roof drain and costs less. This can be a cost effective solution. See below space reqs.
  • It accepts the Zurn and Jay R. Smith brand roof drains with other brands to be added soon. Model LCP fits between joists that are 24″ on center (parallel to the joists) without making a single structural modification except for adding a recommend center support between the roof drains.
  • If you have a brand preference, please let us know on the contact page.
  • OTHER DRAIN PANS WITH NO SUMP FEATURE

Here are some excellent benefits

CONTRACTORS and BUILDERS DRAMATICALLY INCREASE PRODUCTION AND REDUCE LABOR COSTS…

  • LCP sump pan…..
    • ELIMINATES the labor and material intensive task of building a large double “wood sump box”. on the jobsite  Building the wood box has been, and is one of the current industry standard procedures for lowering a roof drain. This process could easily take a few hours to construct and install plus the cost of wood products and hardware. With LCP pan, all of that laborious work and cost is eliminated resulting in 30 minute installation on a wood roof. IT PAYS FOR ITSELF!! Buy one and find out for yourself.
  • LCP sump pan represents an industry first design as:
    • LCP sump feature is integrated into the pan design and eliminates the need to build the “wood sump box”.
    • Accepts several roof drain brands
    • These are features that no other sump pan on the market has to offer

For The DIYer…

Here Are Some LCP Roof Drain Pan Installation Applications

Model LCP roof drain pan is best suited to large commercial, industrial and institutional applications where there are large roof surface areas to be serviced

How to use the LCP roof drain sump pan

The following information shows three types of installation methods commonly used with LCP sump pan. These apply to wood framed roofs mainly, however the pan and drains can be used on steel and concrete decks with perfect adaptability. Select the method that suits your project requirements.
The LCP pan was originally designed to accept the large roof drain however it has been adapted to use a 12" and 8-1/2" diameter roof drain. The smaller diameter gives the installer more space to work with around the drains.

1) Parallel Installation

  • As shown, the LCP sump pan is installed parallel to the joists. This method does not require any modifications to any of the components that comprise the kit or to the building structure.
  • It is designed to fit between joists that are 24″ on center minimum, but can be used where the joist span is wider. such as metal or concrete roofs.
  • It is recommended that a center brace is installed for lengthwise support on a wood roof   End blocks can be added additional strength and to prevent deflection of the roof. The photo below illustrates this concept.  On metal or concrete roofs, added support is generally not required.

2) Perpendicular Installation

In the photo below,  LCP sump pan is installed with 15.” ( flange diameter) primary and overflow Zurn roof drains with 4″ pipe sizes, and is installed perpendicular, or 90 degrees, to the roof joists.

As such, the framing will need to be modified to accommodate installation of the components.  This is generally not the case with a parallel installation.

The photo below was a new construction project and the framing was factored into the design.

Zurn ZC100 primary and Z100-89 overflow cast iron 15" roof drains,

Please note that this sump pan has been modified since this picture was taken and has less space between the roof drains. Refer to the spec sheet. All of these kits can be purchased on the shopping cart.

3) Multi-level roof drain installation description

In some cases, the building designer would prefer to have the overflow roof drain at deck level. The multi-level configuration was designed for this purpose.

It uses two separate roof drains and sump pans. The primary roof drain is installed in a model LSP sump pan which lowers it two inches below the roof surface.

The overflow roof drain is installed at the roof level with a FLAT DRAIN PLATE.  This puts the water dam two inches above the roof.

The double sump pan, model LCP,  is not used in this case.

This picture shows the completed multi-level installation on a wood framed roof

In this particular installation, the pan was lowered into the plywood. While this is an excellent idea, generally the sump pan sits on top of the plywood. Nevertheless, it accomplished the goal.

COST BREAKDOWN:

  • Josam 22500 kit has 15-in roof drains. Online costs range from $627.00 to $925.00
  • Zurn Z163-ZC-3NH 15″ Combo Roof Drains – $850.00 to $942.00

  • INSTALLATION FEATURES: This setup shows the standard deck plate or sump receiver that is regularly supplied with roof drains.
  • Since it does not have the sump feature engineered into it’s design, the installer would need to build a wood “sump box” and modify the pan to adequately “sump” the drain. This applies to a wood framed building.
  • The standard deck plate works well with insulated roofs where the roof covering is thicker as the the tapered insulation creates the sump.
